"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."
Greetings, friend! Welcome to my illustrious
informative
intriguing blog, where I am documenting my journey from frequent couch-sitter to first-time marathon runner. I'll be participating in my first marathon on behalf of the charity organization, Random Acts, dedicated to funding and inspiring acts of kindness in our local and global communities. Feeling generous? Please take a gander at the sidebar, where you'll find a link to my fundraising website. Otherwise, strap on your seatbelts, keep all extremities within the blog at all times, and enjoy your stay!
Broke double-digits (10 miles) in a single run, and was broken in return. This one is a draw, but just you wait… oh, just. You. Wait.

STATUS REPORT: Month 2
Mileage for month the second: 71 miles (114K… ahh, we really should use the metric system)
Feet: Intact. Mostly. (Blisters are simultaneously fascinating and disgusting. Google Image Search of blisters is always just disgusting.)
Knees: Yes.
STATUS REPORT: PHASE I (5K/10K TRAINING)
Start Date: 05 January 2013
End Date: 02 March 2013
Duration: Eight weeks
Total Mileage: 127 miles (204K)
Longest Run: 8 miles (except it was closer to 9... it was an accident)
Greatest Achievements:
- Found a nickel within the first minute of my first run outside (second run of training); has accompanied me on every run since, but, strangely, has still not lost any weight (it doesn’t make any cents…)
- Was not viciously attacked by a herd of deer that I mistook for incredibly realistic-looking lawn ornaments (they were standing really still, okay?)
- Can run the required distances without needing to stop and walk for a bit AND
- Can run while carrying on a conversation/swearing at the cars that get too close or are driving too fast/praying for assistance to anything that will listen
- Fashioned a brilliant post-run recovery system with ice packs, towels, and shoelaces
- Registered for my first half-marathon and my first marathon (Bank of America Chicago Marathon)
- Got permission from Random Acts to run in the Chicago Marathon on their behalf

Your Hostess For This Evening
- Katie
- I'm just a small-town girl, living in a -- oh wait. I mean, join me as I encounter the trials, tribulations, and triumphs(??) throughout my 10-month journey to transform from a suffering speed-walker to (probably still suffering) marathon runner. And if you're not interested in that, well... there's still the GIFs and grumpy cats.
