Mileage for month the fourth: 168 miles (no more metric; it's just "a lot" now)
Feet: Intact. Mostly. Have learned of the inherent beauty of Dr. Scholl's Moleskin Padding.
Knees: Yes. They make their presence known. Constantly.
STATUS REPORT: PHASE II (HALF-MARATHON TRAINING)
Start Date: 03 March 2013
End Date: 27 April 2013
Duration: Eight weeks
Total Mileage: 295 miles (Oregon Trail was way easier, but then, they had oxen.)
Longest Run: 15 miles (AND dressed as a rabbit. Oh yes.)
Greatest Achievements:
- To continue with above... ran the furthest I have run thus far, and, well, ever. Because, seriously, why would you run 15 miles normally? I mean, you say "I'd run 15 miles for X," but, go ahead, do it just to do it. You'll never say that again. I guarantee it. I certainly never will. And if I do, take note, 'cause that food item, etc. must be pretty darn good. ANYWAY. I decided it would be a brilliant idea if I ran my longest run ever (which happened to fall on Easter weekend) in a heavily populated park so I could had out fliers and candy, and talk to them about Random Acts and my marathon fundraiser. Naturally, I did all this dressed as the Easter Bunny, because, well, Easter weekend. You don't believe me, do you?
Yeah, see? If only I could have run a *hare* faster (HAHA). Interest in the crazy running lady was high, donations were very much not. But it's okay, because people laughed and smiled a lot, and they seemed pleased with the candy, which was pretty awesome. So, definitely not a fail. - Also in the category of "achievement," due to the Easter Bunny outfit, I successfully caused a minor traffic incident on an extremely large and busy road. And by "traffic incident," I mean that people honked their horns, and rolled down windows, screamed "EASTER BUNNNAAAY," and (some) moved to exit their vehicles to join me(?), causing traffic to be stopped in multiple directions. Guys ::whispers:: it was just bunny ears, a tutu, and a tail. Those pants are pants I wear all the time. I honestly don't know what the deal was. Dum-Dums are just not worth that hassle, seriously.
- Was able to participate in an impromptu unity run the day after the Boston Marathon bombing. I still have a difficult time trying to decide what I want to say about that. Even here, I'm not sure what to say about the unity run, as "nice" doesn't seem appropriate. I'm just... grateful I was able to do so, and that the wonderful people that organized it gave people an avenue to express their support and their grief in this particular way.
- Participated in and finished my first half-marathon. I recommend never running
13.1 mileson less than two hours of sleep. Ohboywasthatrough. (Note: It was not on purpose. The nerves got the better of me, and I couldn't sleep. Sorry, I wish that was a better story. I'll try for a more "The Hangover" type thing next time.) But I finished, was not the last person (surprise!), and got the most awesome finisher's medal known to medal-dom. Guys, you don't understand. IT SPINS.
